Meet the Garden; Epimedium

I tell people all the time, “Stop by and see what I’m doing in my garden.”   I say that, and I’d love everyone to come by, but I am wise enough to know that the constraints of time and space make that difficult.  Heck, given how busy life is, I don’t even see the people I love the most, often enough.

I can’t hug my friends in this space,  but I can share my garden with you.

So every now and again, I’ll post images of PRG central gardens.  I’m doing it for the first time on Garden Bloggers Bloom Day.  Garden bloggers post images of what is blooming in their gardens on the 15th of each month.  I’ve been a drag and haven’t played along, but spring has lifted my spirits and I’m feeling social.  I probably will post it to the journal section of the page after this.

It’s fab that I get to celebrate one of my favorite plants for this inaugural ‘Meet the Garden’.  Epimedium is the shade plant that owns my heart.  I swoon in her presence. I also love the common name I choose to refer to her as, Horny Goat Weed.  Yes, I like goats, but they have been replaced by chickens. I pondered doing a parody of ‘Meet the Press’ called ‘Meet the Chickens’ but for now, I’m content with introducing my favorite plants parody-free.  Happy viewing.

I love the red tint in the leave and how bouncy they are.  Fall brings added color to this variety.

Epimedium works really well next to dark heuchera.  I have mostly white flowers in my gardens.

Ok…  I have a few flowers with color in my gardens.  I have this pink epimedium and I have a yellow one too.  If anyone knows which varieties of epimedium these are, I would love feedback!!  All photos by me.

  3. I groove on the white centers with purple petal tips. Great photo! Still, they look better in person. ;-)

  4. I showed the epimedium photos to Sue and she squealed like a little girl. I think she likes epimediums! Lovely pix! (Really nice profile pic, too, BTW.)

  5. Gorgeous! I really do need to get a horny goat weed! I post pictures of what’s blooming in my garden every Wednesday. It seems that this time of year there is always something new. And after a trip to Groff’s Plant Farm (the best) down below Qarryville yesterday, I will have even more inspiration!
