“Look at the BIG blueberry I found, Laura.”
“Laura, Look how many blueberries I found!”
“Mom, mom MOM! can I eat this blueberry?”
Happy kid’s voices seemed almost muffled by the peacefulness of the rolling hills. Even though there were a good thirty people picking blueberries at Paulus Orchards near Dillsburg yesterday morning, quiet settled around each heavily berried bush. I alternated from searching for ripe dark blue orbs, to scanning the surroundings and taking in the wavy lines made by the trees planted on the soft hillsides.
The orchard offers pick your own blueberries on Tuesday, Thursdays and Saturday mornings from 9am to 1pm. They suggest you come early to find the most ripe berries and I would suggest going early to enjoy the cool of the morning. Berries are $2 per pound. The people are nice. Parking and Paying is easy. We gave them a little extra for our berries since a few just might have been sampled along the way.
There are multiple bushes and at least two varieties. It’s not too late to go. Many berries were in need of ripening. Afterward, you can stop at the orchard store and purchase produce or jellies, jams or sauces preserved by the orchards. In the mood for another treat? Have ice cream or shortcake at a picnic table in front of the store.

Those are huge blueberries. We’ll be picking soon, I think, though the place we pick has more average-sized fruit.
